Bulgan Mountain with granite rocks is a very beautiful mountain and is located to the north of Tsetserleg town. This mountain is an east branch of main Khangai Range. South Bulgan Mountain, located in the north of Tsetserleg town, is 1980 m above sea level and is relatively 280 m. It is one of three Bulgan Mountains and another two are middle Bulgan Mountain with 1940 m absolute and 240 m relative altitudes and north Bulgan with 220 m absolute and 200 m relative altitudes. The mountains are covered in forest and are rich in pasture and grass. There are many medicinal plants; strawberry, redcurrant, burberry, nuts, plantain, rose root, bumet, valerian, thyme, hedge-rose, rhubarb and locoweed, as well as some vegetables like flea-bane, polygonum, anise and white potato. The mountain has ebony, cedar, birch, asp, poplar and elm trees. For fauna, some mammals like roe deer, musk deer, lynx, wild boar, wild cats, squirrel, stoat, chipmunk, fox, wolf, rabbit, and birds like hawk, eagle, owl, magpie, raven and dove. The quantity of animals and birds in this area are decreasing year by year because of the increase in Tsetserleg town and its population growth. This mountain has been protected since 1965. It was previously a Strictly Protected area, but now its status is Natural Scenery. Some historical memorials like Zaya Gegeenii Khuree Monastery and religious paintings can be found on the mountain. Before, the monastery consisted of many temples, but now few of them have remained. The monastery was established in 1631 and now it is being used as a museum. Behind the Zaya Khuree monastery, a Buddha garden is being built next to Galdan Zuu temple, in the south side of Bulgan Mountain.
