Location: N43°31'00.0 E104°08'00.0 Yoliin Am (translation: Canyon of Vulture Mouth) Bayan Dalai, Khurmen and Sevrei soums of Umnugobi province.

Distance: 625 km south west from Ulaanbaatar city 62 km west from Dalanzadgad town (Canyon of Vulture Mouth).

Altitude: 2825 m above sea-level.

The Govi Gurvan Saikhan Mountain Range consists of Baruun (west) Saikhan, Dund (middle) Saikhan and Zuun (east) Saikhan mountains along with other mountains. The range covers an area 100 km long in the east part of Gobi Altai Range. Mountains in Gurvan Saikan Range are 2500 to 2600 m high. The highest peak is Shand Mountain (2815 m) in Zuun Saikhan Mountiain. Gurvan Saikhan Range has many scree slopes and rocky cliffs and it has been influenced by the Hot and arid Gobi climate, but the high mountains hold more humidity. There is no permanent river. Over 30 springs appear in wet seasons and some of them are Yoliin Ekhen, Jargalant, Ulaan Chuluu, Nogoon Chuluu, Erdene Tolgoi, Ikh Khavtsgai, Ulziit and Biluu springs. For fauna, this range is home of lots of rare animals such as wild sheep, ibexe, snow leopard, black- tailed deer, marten, lynx, wild cats, antelopes and ground squirrels, all registered in International and Mongolian Red Books. Yoliin Am (Vulture Mouth) is one of the beautiful natural secrets of this mountain. The canyon of Vulture Mouth placed in the north east part of Zuun Saikhan Mountain (N 43°31, E 104°08) and as the crow flies 35 to 40 km from Dalanzadgad town, but one has to travel 62 km because of road bumpiness.

This is a beautiful deep canyon with many rocky cliffs and it has been created by many years of water erosion. No sun appears in bottom of the canyon during winters because it has tall and steep rocky walls. The canyon keeps some ice until August. A small river running along this canyon is in flood during rainy summers and many small rapids appear beautifully here.

There are some rare animals like ibexes, martens and snow leopards as well as vultures, eagles, hawks and falcons around this canyon. Some shrubby plants and wormwoods (small bushy trees), junipers and Artemisia grow here. There is a Natural History Museum here which has a variety of animals, plants and natural components in Gobi. Yoliin Am (Vulture Mouth) was protected as a strictly protected area during 1965 to 1993, and then Gobi Gurvan Saikhan Mountain National Park, including the named mountain range, Khongor sand dunes, Nemegt, Khermen Tsav and Zulganai River, was established in 1993. UNESCO has registered this national park in the list of “World cultural and natural heritage” because many rare dinosaur skeletons and eggs have been found, particularly in Nemegt, Altan Mountain, Bugiin Tsav and Guriliin Tsav.
