Ikh Bogd Mountain, covers 50 km long area to the east of Bayan Tsagaan Mountain, is a biggest mountain of Gobi Altai Range, This mountain is surrounded by vast steppes and gobi along both north and south sides, and by Bayan Tsagaan Mountain and Baga Bogd Mountain Range (2400-3600 m) along west and south sides. Ikh Bogd Mountain is 50 km away to the south west of Jinst soum centre and 20 km away to the south of Bayangobi soum centre in Bayankhongor province. Ikh Bogd Mountian is lifted at 3957 m above sea sheep and ibex, there are many species of level. An earthquake having a magnitude of 11 on the Richter scale caused 270 km long geological fault from the north of Baga Bogd Mountain until the north of Bayan Tsagaan Mountain. Oyut and Binderya, youngest lakes in Mongolia, are created as the result of that this earthquake blocked Bituutiin River on the north of Ikh Bogd Mountain. For Oyut Lake, it is 200 m long, 170 m wide and 25 m deep, and for Binderya Lake, it is 275 m long, 100 m wide and 14 m deep. Apart from wild medical herbs. From ancient time, local people are still worshipping the mountain until now. Generally, beautiful mountains with highest altitude around an area are respectfully called “Bogd” by Mongolians. Although many caves have destroyed by the earthquake in 1957, there are biggest amount of caves in Ikh Bogd and Baga Bogd Mountains. Apart from many smaller caves, more than 10 bigger caves have found here. Tsagaan Cave, 40 km away to the north east of Bayan Lig soum centre and 40 km away to the south east of Ikh Bogd Mountain, is biggest cave in this area (N 44°42', E 101° 10'). This cave is 38 km long, 5.3 m wide and 4.6 m high in the mouth of the cave, and 9.9 m wide in the middle. This cave consists of 3 main halls connected each other. Historical finds from this cave have proven that people lived here 700 thousand years ago. In order to protect ecosystem and biodiversity of Great Bogd Mountain and develop tourism, Great Bogd Mountain with 313193 ha area has become National park according to decree number 05 of State Great Khural of Mongolia since 2008.
