Khundlun Mountain is located to the south of the main road between Ulaanbaatar and Murun, 10 km to the east of Ikh Uul soum centre and 30 km to the west of Tarialan soum centre. This is very beautiful and worshipped mountain. The mountain was created by a geological tectonic fault and the basaltic rock surface covering south of the mountain has lifted. Young larch trees and many species of plants grow on the back side of the mountain. Looking carefully you can make out three basaltic layers of the mountain. The south side is almost vertical at 200 m relative altitude. Only the north side is available for climbing up to the top because the other sides are really steep. This mountain is great for studying geography and is also one of the most beautiful places with its special landscape.
