The Tsagaan Shuvuut Mountain, located in the front of borderland, in the northern part of Uureg Lake is one of the highest and most picturesque major Altai Mountains in western Mongolia. The rocks in this magnificent mountain are high and sharp, stand in elevation over 3000 meters, and the mountain has a lot of rare and endangered animals and plants. The highest point of the Tsagaan Shuvuut Mountain is 3496 meters above sea level and the northern side of the mountain has full of extremely sharp rocks and deep angles. From the north side of the mountain, the Mergen, Eigen and Ikh Dush mountains stretch and join to the west end of the mountain Tagna. The Tsagaan Shuvuut Mountain is an important habitat for a great deal of well- known wildlife, such as squirrel, forest weasel, wolverine, deer, wild boar and roe deer and examples of some rodents that have declined include long-eared mountain vole, Mongolian five-toed jerboa, Pallas’s pika, and other mammals: souslik, marmot and so on. Mountain brown soil mainly dominates and short and sparsely grown plants: sedge, bog sedge and lichen, altermath and moss are dominant in the mountain as well as aspen, willow and other trees and forest are seen in the branches and sides of the Tsagaan Shuvuut Mountain. There are Uureg and Kheree lakes in the Tsagaan Shuvuut Mountain as well as Ikh Khosorkhog, Baga Khosorkhog, Yellow rock river, Yol spring, Bayangol canyon River and other small rivers and springs flow from the back side of the mountain and join into Sagil river and feed the Uvs Lake. Uureg Lake is one of the biggest salt lakes in Mongolia. In order to protect wilderness and biodiversities of the Tsagaan Shuvuut Mountain, which is a delegate of Mongolian tallest and most beautiful mountains, located in the Uvs Lake Depression, it was gained under State Protection. The Tsagaan Shuvuut Mountain, spreads in 22 thousand ha areas represents the individual zone of tall mountain ecosystem of Uvs Lake Basin.
